AG Gordon C. Rhea Joins Bipartisan Coalition in Urging Congress to Pass the Workforce Reentry Act to Stabilize Funding for Programs Aimed at Reducing Recidivism, Increasing Public Safety

U.S. Virgin Islands — U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea, joins communities nationwide in recognizing National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.), observed on Friday, January 9, 2026.

This annual observance honors the dedicated men and women who serve in law enforcement at the local, territorial, and federal levels. We recognize police officers, peace officers, investigators, detectives, forensic technicians, and criminal prosecutors across the U.S. Virgin Islands for their unwavering commitment to public safety and justice.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was established in 2015 following a period of heightened national tension and scrutiny of law enforcement. In response to negative perceptions that emerged during that time, police organizations across the country came together to create a day focused on encouraging public support and appreciation for law enforcement professionals who serve honorably and selflessly.

“These professionals are our front-line protectors—working under unpredictable and often dangerous conditions—to safeguard our communities and uphold the rule of law. They have answered the call to public service, and for that, we say thank you.”

Attorney General Rhea encourages residents to take time to show their appreciation for law enforcement officers through simple but meaningful gestures, including:

  • Wearing blue
  • Sending a card or letter of support to local law enforcement agencies
  • Sharing a positive law enforcement experience on social media
  • Changing social media profile colors to blue
  • Displaying a blue ribbon on a vehicle, mailbox, or other visible location

“Most importantly,” Attorney General Rhea added, “we can show our support by simply saying, thank you.”
