St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Department of Justice (DOJ) proudly announces that Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea delivered an insightful presentation today at the National Consumer Protection 101 Training, hosted by the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) Center for Consumer Protection. The event began today and continues until February 13, 2025, at the Marriott Carambola Beach Resort in St. Croix, U.S.V.I.
AG Rhea provided an engaging overview of the U.S. Virgin Islands, covering the territory’s rich history, unique territorial status, governmental structure, and the inner workings of the Virgin Islands Department of Justice. He also highlighted the department’s current challenges, offering valuable context to an audience of more than 60 attorneys general and their staff from across the nation. The attendees expressed keen interest in learning about the islands’ local culture and governance.
“Consumer protection is a critical priority for the Virgin Islands Department of Justice,” stated AG Rhea. “This conference provided an excellent platform to exchange knowledge and strategies that will strengthen our efforts to protect consumers in the territory.”
Several Assistant Attorneys General from the Virgin Islands Department of Justice participated in this intensive two-and-a-half-day program. Designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in a dynamic learning environment, the training was facilitated by experienced attorneys serving as faculty. The program aimed to deepen understanding of consumer protection enforcement and address challenges faced in complex investigations, settlements, and litigation.

- State enforcement of federal consumer protection laws
- Pre-litigation discovery techniques
- Investigative strategies for online environments
- Utilizing data sets in case strategies

- A comprehensive case study
The training focused on practical issues attorneys encounter when handling consumer protection cases, providing tools and strategies to enhance professional enforcement of these vital laws.
The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) is the nonpartisan national forum for America’s state and territory attorneys general. NAAG provides a community for attorneys general and their staff to collaboratively address issues important to their work, as well as training and resources to support attorneys general in protecting the rule of law and the United States Constitution.
