DOJ Announces Conviction in Criminal Trial: People of the Virgin Islands v. Daryl Jean-Baptiste

U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Department of Justice (DOJ) announced today that 26-year-old Daryl Jean-Baptiste has been found guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with a 2019 fatal car crash. The verdict followed a three-day trial, which concluded on July 23, 2025, before the Honorable Judge Yvette Ross Edwards in the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix District.

Minor Suspect transferred to Adult Court in Homicide Case: Adult Arrest Warrant and Charging Documents executed today

U.S. Virgin Islands – U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea announced that a transfer hearing was held today for the 15-year-old male minor accused in the June 5, homicide of 38-year-old Jordan “Dutty Heart” Jones. Following the hearing, the minor was ordered to be transferred to adult court, and the adult arrest warrant and charging documents were executed this afternoon.

Fugitive Kaley L. Lund Apprehended in Texas, Returned to St. Croix by DOJ Agents to Face Charges and Sentencing for Involuntary Manslaughter

U.S. Virgin Islands – Virgin Islands Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea announces that 32-year-old fugitive Kaley L. Lund of Colorado was apprehended in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 19, 2025, and transported back to St. Croix, where she appeared today before the Honorable Yolan Brow-Ross at V.I. Superior Court for her Advice of Rights Hearing. Lund is being charged with Failure to Appear in a Criminal Proceeding and was formally arraigned on the new charge this morning.

55 Attorneys General Sign On to $7.4 Billion Purdue Settlement

U.S. Virgin Islands – Virgin Islands Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea announces that all 55 attorneys general, representing all eligible states and U.S. territories, agreed to sign on to a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family. The Sackler family has also informed the attorneys general of its plan to proceed with the settlement, which would resolve litigation against Purdue and Sacklers for their role in the creating and worsening the opioid crisis across the country. Now that the state sign-on period has concluded, local governments across the country will be asked to join the settlement contingent on bankruptcy court proceedings.
