AG George recognizes Law Professionals during Law Week, May 17-23

Lawyers Well-Being Week and Law Day were also recognized this month (U.S. Virgin Islands)- Atty General Denise George is proud to recognize Law Day, Law Week, and Lawyers Well-being Week all during the month of May. Law Day (May 1) and Law Week (May 17-23) celebrates the rule of law which protects the freedoms we all enjoy.

Lawyers Well-Being Week held (May 3-7) was dedicated to improving the wellness of those in the legal profession. “The law is a system of rules that a society or government develops to deal with crime, business agreements, and social relationships. The rule of law is a set of principles, or ideals, for ensuring an orderly and just society. It is the bedrock of our community”, said AG George. “Even in these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic, when people are experiencing uncertainty, our laws seek to protect the health, safety, and well-being of every person throughout the Territory.

Many in the legal profession have transformed the system to ensure that the vital legal needs of the citizens are met”. Nationwide this month, students learn about the role of the law in our society through a variety of lesson plans, while attorneys and other legal professionals celebrate with other events. Annually, V.I. Department of Justice attorneys reach out to schools and our community to teach law and explain the legal process. This year’s theme is “Advancing the rule of Law Now”. It reminds all of us that we the people share the responsibility to promote the rule of law, defend liberty, and pursue justice.
