U.S. Virgin Islands — In observance of National Police Week, taking place May 11 through May 17, 2026, Attorney General Gordon C. Rhea proudly recognizes the dedicated officers and personnel of the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) for their continued commitment to protecting and serving the people of the Virgin Islands.
“Police Week provides an important opportunity to recognize the extraordinary service and sacrifice of the men and women of the VIPD,” said Attorney General Rhea. “Every day, these officers demonstrate courage, integrity, and professionalism as they work tirelessly to safeguard our neighborhoods and uphold public safety throughout the territory.”
Attorney General Rhea also highlighted the strong collaboration between the Virgin Islands Department of Justice (DOJ) and the VIPD in advancing justice and maintaining public trust.
“The Department of Justice values its ongoing partnership with the VIPD as we work together to promote accountability, enforce the law, and protect our communities,” he stated. “We are deeply appreciative of the dedication and resilience shown by every officer, and we thank them for their unwavering service to the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands.”
National Police Week also includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. On Friday, motorcades and vigils are planned for both St. Croix and St. Thomas.
“As we recognize Police Week, we also pause to remember the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting others,” Attorney General Rhea added. “Their courage and legacy will forever remain in our hearts and in the history of this territory.”
The DOJ encourages residents across the Virgin Islands to join in honoring the members of the VIPD and law enforcement agencies nationwide during this week of gratitude, remembrance, and recognition.
